Hitifx recently attended a screening of Darren Aronofsky’s new ballet thriller Black Swan, and caught the news that the film’s cinematographer Matthew Libatique will join Aronofsky on X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, which is expected to begin filming early next year.
Libatique has good form; as well as a few recent comic book adaptations (Iron Man 1 & 2, and the upcoming Cowboys and Aliens, all with director Jon Favreau), he has produced stunning images on Aronofsky’s previous films Pi, Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain.
While the first film could generously be described as a mis-fire, his and Aronofsky’s involvement, along with star Hugh Jackman’s stated intentions to make sure the new film does a better job this time round, all bode well for the sequel.
