Cinemablend’s review for the leaked recent draft of the Deadpool script, by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, sums it up nicely:
“…if Quentin Tarantino wrote a superhero movie, it would be a lot like this script for Deadpool. In its best moments, Deadpool is like reading Van Wilder meets Kill Bill, a genius mix of insane dark comedy and ridiculous over the top violence the likes of which we’ve never seen in any other superhero movie before. As a character, Deadpool is kind of like The Bride, but with a Looney Tunes sense of humor.”
The review is generally very positive, but with one caveat – “it’ll only work with Ryan Reynolds”. This is easy to believe – whatever you may think of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there’s no doubting that Deadpool, and Ryan Reynolds’ performance of the chaarcter, are highpoints in that film. Let’s just hope that Reynolds’ commitment to The Green Lantern and its sequels don’t prevent him from taking on this movie, which sounds like a perfect fit for him.
