New York Times’ Vulture blog reports that David Slade and Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, The Time Traveler’s Wife) are the two shortlisted directors for Wolverine 2, which starts filming early next year. The final decision is apparently down to Hugh Jackman, but, according to their sources, Slade will be the one to get the job.
While younger viewers are likely to most associate Slade with Twilight: Eclipse, his earlier films, Hard Candy and 30 Days Of Night, prove that he can handle real actors, real tension and real brutal tension, not just mopey tween twaddle.
I think he’s a great choice, and hopefully we’ll see Fox loosen the reigns a little, a la First Class, and allow Slade to make the kind of hard, gritty film that the character deserves.
