With the start of filming getting ever closer, Joe Johnston is narrowing down the list of actors who will be playing that all-important lead role.
Recent reports indicated that Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel, Michael Cassidy and Patrick Flueger had all screen-tested for the role, but now THR is reporting that Chris Evans has had an official offer.
It’s certainly an interesting choice, as Evans has previously starred as The Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies, so it remains to be seen if he can drop that association in fans’ minds, or indeed if he has any existing contractual obligation to Fox.
If it’s true, and he accepts the role, I think it’s a great choice, as he certainly has the acting chops to pull off the role, and hold is own opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the eventual Avengers movie.
